NextCloud Tekae TIPSSA Open: Tournament Preview

28 March 2023

The third tournament to get underway on Wednesday will be the NextCloud Tekae TIPSSA Open, which takes place in Mexico City.

Squash Delta, in the Piedad Narvarte region of the Mexican capital, will play host to the Challenger 5 level men’s competition. 24 players from five nations will compete, with the majority of the field playing on home soil.

Alfredo Avila will be the top seed, and the favourite for the title. The World No.69 already has three titles to his name this season. He has already achieved wins at the Sport Central Open, HSC International Squash Open and the Christianson Classic, and will be looking to add a fourth win this week.

Compatriot Alejandro Reyes will be his nearest challenger, with Leo Vargas, Miled Zarazua, Allan Nunez and Carlos Vargas also among the top eight seeds. Colombia’s Edgar Ramirez Bautista and Guatemalan Luis Quisquinay will be the only two non-Mexicans to be seeded this week.

Only three others featuring this week will not hail from the host nation. Paraguayan No.1 Francesco Marcantonio, Germany’s Jan Wipperfurth and a second Colombian, in Felipe Tovar, will join the majority-Mexican field.

There will be four wildcards for the tournament this week, with two of those being juniors. Wally De Los Santos will be featuring for only the second time on Tour, while Carlos Zendejas will make his Tour debut. Pablo Hernandez and Gerardo Ramos will be the other wildcards for the event.

The event takes place from Wednesday, March 29 to Sunday, April 2 at Squash Delta in Mexico City. Follow the PSA Challenger Tour on Twitter and Facebook for daily updates from the event.
