NextCloud Tekae TIPSSA Open: Top Seed Avila Takes Title

Mexico’s Alfredo Avila was the victor on home soil at the NextCloud Tekae TIPSSA Open, claiming his forth victory of the campaign.

Avila already had three wins to his name in the 2022-2023 season prior to this event, and he came to Mexico City as the tournament’s top seed.

After receiving a bye through the opening round of action, the Mexican defeated Paraguayan No.1 Francesco Marcantonio in straight games to get his week underway. Another straight games wins came in the quarter finals, as he cruised past compatriot Carlos Vargas.

His toughest test came in the last four of the competition, against the unseeded Sebastian Salazar. After winning the opening two games comfortably, he saw Salazar win the third to close the gap in the match. However, Avila was able to regroup to win the fourth to the loss of just three points, moving through to another final.

The final saw the tournament’s top seed on another unseeded Mexican, in Jorge Gomez. However, there would be no surprises from Gomez, as Avila put in a confident performance to win in straight games, and to claim his fourth title of the season.
