Mirabelles QF: Clain, Meredith and Harris Cause Upsets

The surprises kept coming at L’International des Mirabelles, with the English duo of Noah Meredith and Asia Harris, along with home hope Edwin Clain, all making it into the semi-finals.

Meredith, the unseeded Englishman, started his campaign by defeating No.4 seed Sam Buckley on Thursday. He followed that up with a confident performance to defeat Switzerland’s Nils Roesch in the last eight on Friday. He fell behind to the tournament’s No.7 seed, but fought back to win in four to book his spot in the semis.

The other surprise winner in the men’s event was Frenchman Edwin Clain, who defeated the No.3 seed to advance. Buoyed with the home crowd behind him, Cain took the first two games to hold a commanding advantage. Rapp took the third to pull one back, but the Frenchman took the victory in four. He will now face top seed Yannik Omlor, while Meredith will play compatriot Robert owner in the semis.

There was just a single surprise result in the women’s quarter final, with England’s Asia Harris downing No.3 seed Klara Moller. The Englishwoman claimed a tight first game 11-9, and she was in complete control from there. She dropped just five points over the next two games en route to a straight game victory.

Harris will now face top seed Sofia Mateos in the last four of the Challenger 3 level competition, while the other semi-final will be an all-English clash. No.4 seed Katie Wells will take on No.8 seed Kiera Marshall for a place in the final on Sunday.

The semi-finals of L’International des Mirabelles will take place on Saturday, October 1, with the three surprise winners from quarter finals day aiming to back those wins up with further success in the last four.
