Maspeth Squash Open QF: Walsh Leads Top Seeds Into Semis

24 June 2023

The semi-finals of the Maspeth Squash Open are set, with top seed Tom Walsh leading the top seeds into the last four of the competition.

The Challenger 5 level event finally made its debut on the outdoor steel court in Maspeth after rain meant the opening round was moved indoors. England’s Tom Walsh, the tournament’s top seed, safely booked his place in the last four in New York City.

The Englishman came up against India’s Abhishek Agarwal in the last eight, and took a two-game advantage, thanks to a tight 13-11 win in the second. He then lost the third on a tie-break 12-10, before fighting back to win the fourth 11-6 to advance.

He will now take on Egypt’s Mohamed Nabil, the event’s No.4 seed, and the tournament promoter. Nabil got the better of Brazil’s Vinicius Leao Rodrigues in four games, winning the first, second and fourth all with an 11-9 scoreline.

The other semi-final will see Austrian No.1 Aqeel Rehman take on Canadian Liam Marrison. Rehman defeated Mexico’s Leo Vargas, while Marrison got the better of compatriot Brett Schille, fighting back after losing the first to win in four.

The semis of the Maspeth Squash Open will take place on Saturday, June 24, with the last four doing battle in an attempt to reach the finals. You can keep up to date with daily updates from the tournament on the PSA Challenger Tour’s Twitter and Facebook
