LT Chicago Open: Crouin and Moataz Claim Titles

24 October 2022

The Life Time Chicago Open Walker & Dunlop – The Hussain Family came to its conclusion on Sunday afternoon, with Frenchman Victor Crouin and Egypt’s Hana Moataz taking the titles at Life Time Athletic Vernon Hills.

Crouin came into the tournament as the top seed, and after a bye through the opening round, he went through the event with consummate ease. His second round contest saw him downed American Spencer Lovejoy in just half an hour, before then downing No.8 seed Faraz Khan in straight games.

The Frenchman took on England’s Sam Todd in the semi-finals, with the unseeded Englishman having already taken out two of the top seeds to make it to the last four. Crouin, though, had no issues, dropping just nine points en route to a 29-minute victory.

In the final, Crouin took on India’s Ramit Tandon, and he lost the first game, the first game he had lost all week. From there, the Frenchman was in complete control, winning both the second and third games 11-6, before taking the fourth game without dropping a point. He took the victory, and as a result, moved back into the world’s top 10 on Monday.

Egypt’s Moataz started the week as the No.2 seed, and had a difficult start to the event. She went to a tie-break against American wildcard Reeham Sedky, taking it 19-17. Unfortunately, Sedky had to retire midway through to the second with injury, sending the Egyptian through to the quarters.

She then came up against India’s Akanksha Salunkhe in the last eight, and won in straight games to move through to the semis. There, Moataz defeated No.3 seed Georgia Adderley, and had to go to a deciding game, but she eventually took the win after just over an hour.

The final was an all-Egyptian battle, with Moataz coming up against compatriot Kenzy Ayman. She took the first two games 11-7 and 11-6 before seeing Ayman take the third game to close the gap. However, the No.2 seed took the win in four after 42 minutes to claim the title.
