Liverpool Cricket Club Open SF: All-English Finals Day Set
The finals of the Liverpool Cricket Club Open are set, with the four players through all hailing from the host nation of England.
Alicia Mead and Torrie Malik both downed foreign opposition to make the women’s final. Mead, the tournament’s No.2 seed, went the distance against Australian Alex Haydon. The Englishwoman was behind following the third game, but came through strongly to win both the fourth and fifth games by a scoreline of 11-3.
She will now take on Torrie Malik in the final on Saturday evening. Malik, who already has four tournament wins to her name in the 2022-2023 campaign, defeated Scotland’s Alison Thomson in straight games. The second game was the longest of the three, with the Englishwoman winning it 16-14.
The men’s final will see top seed Ben Smith and compatriot Perry Malik do battle for the title. Malik got the better of Miles Jenkins in a deciding fifth game, while top seed Smith overcame compatriot James Peach in four to take the victory.
