Life Time Clemens Johns Creek Open: Asim Khan Wins 10th Career Title

22 July 2024

Muhammad Asim Khan clinched his third title of the season with victory on finals day at the Life Time Clemens Johns Creek Open.

The 27-year-old was facing fellow Pakistani player Muhammad Ashab Irfan, a player who he had beaten twice already this season, but the most recent of those two had been a 99-minute thriller which saw three of the five games go to tiebreaks.

Ashab Irfan – seven years his compatriot’s junior – was also coming into this final in impressive form, having won the Kanso Men Open Presented By Houston Squash Club a fortnight ago.

He had also only dropped one game en route to this final, while Asim Khan had battled through a 90-minute semi-final with Adegoke Onaopemipo, which went deep into a fifth.

It was perhaps little surprise, given the difference in time on court this week, that it was Ashab Irfan who made the faster start, racing into a one-game lead by taking the opener 11-7.

But any thoughts that his opponent was feeling fatigued where quickly dispelled, as Asim Khan reversed the scoreline in game two to draw level, before taking control from there.

He cruised through game three 11-4 and didn’t take a step back, dropping only four points again in the fourth to get his hands on the trophy.

Victory for Asim Khan not only gave him a 10th career title on the PSA Tour, but also cements his status as Pakistan’s No.1 player, after beating one of the rising stars of his country’s sport.
