Latina Paraguay Open: Tovar Downs Compatriot Bautista

The all-Colombian final went the way of Laura Tovar in Asuncion, as she defeated Lucia Bautista to win the Paraguay Open.

The Challenger 5 level tournament was the last on the Latina Tour de las Americas, and it came down to a third meeting between Tovar and Bautista in as many weeks.

Bautista had won the previous two matches, both of which had seen her advance to the finals in Argentina and Brazil. This time though, she came in off the back of a monster semi-final, and Tovar used that to her advantage.

The Colombian No.1 won the opening game 11-7, before both the second and third games went to tie-breaks. Both women had their chances in each, but it was Tovar who came through both. She won 12-10 in the second, before repeating that scoreline in the third to secure the victory, and the Challenger 5 level title.

The victory is Tovar’s second on the PSA Tour this season, following her win at the SACC Costa Rica Open in November, where she also beat Bautista to win the tournament.
