Latina Paraguay Open SF: Colombia’s Tovar and Bautista In Final

27 May 2023

For the third time in three weeks, Colombia’s Lucia Bautista and Laura Tovar will do battle, this time in the final of the Paraguay Open.

The Challenger 5 level tournament is the last on the Latina Tour de las Americas with the Colombian pair having faced off against each other at both the Regatas Resistencia Open and the PAC Open de Squash in the last two weeks.

Bautista made it through to the final in Asuncion after coming from behind to defeat Egypt’s Sohaila Ismail in a five-game battle. After losing the second on a tie-break, the Colombian then found herself 2-1 down after three. She fought back to overcome the tournament’s No.4 seed in five, securing the win after an hour’s action.

The Colombian will take on compatriot Laura Tovar once more, this time in the final. Tovar defeated younger sister Maria in the semis, allowing her sibling to score just 11 points in a confident 11-6, 11-2, 11-3 victory.

Bautista will be full of confidence having beat Tovar in both of their meetings in the last two weeks. She won in four in Resistencia, before the pair went to five last week in Rio de Janeiro. She went on to win on Argentine soil as well, and will be aiming for a second title on the Latina Tour de las Americas.

The final of the Latina Tour de las Americas – Paraguay Open, between Lucia Bautista and Laura Tovar, will take place on Saturday, May 27.
