Lagord Tennis Squash QF: Stewart Downs Top Seed

4 November 2022

Scotland’s Rory Stewart made his way into the semis of the Open PSA Lagord Tennis Squash after defeating top see James Willstrop in the last eight on Thursday evening.

Stewart came into the tournament as the No.5 seed, and after beating Israeli No.1 Daniel Poleshchuk, he came up against the former World No.1 in the quarter finals.

The Scot took the first game to the loss of just a single point, and continued that form into the next two games. Both the second and third games were won by an 11-6 scoreline, to see Stewart advance to the semi-finals of the competition, downing the top seed in just 24 minutes.

He will now face No.3 seed Declan James in the last four, after the Englishman spent just three minutes on court. Japan’s Ryosei Kobayashi had to retire from their quarter final contest through injury. The other semi-final will see Frenchman Auguste Dussourd take on Egypt’s Mazen Gamal, after the latter came through his quarter final clash in five games against England’s Simon Herbert.

The Open PSA Lagord Tennis Squash continues on Friday, November 4, with the semi-finals of the Challenger 20 level tournament taking place. The final four will do battle in an attempt to make it through to the final on Saturday. You can keep up to date with live scores from the event here.
