Kinetic Women’s Challenger SF: Lai and Moya Set For Final Battle

Malaysia’s Wen Li Lai and Ecuadorian Maria Moya will meet in the final of the women’s event at the Kinetic 5k Challenger in Florida.

Top seed Wen Li Lai took on unseeded American Anna Shumway in the last four of the Challenger 5 level competition, and she was in complete control. The Malaysian dropped just twelve points in a 24-minute, straight games victory over the American, winning 11-2, 11-6, 11-4.

She will now face Ecuador’s Maria Moya in the final on Friday evening, after the Ecuadorian fought past Japan’s Risa Sugimoto in a four-game battle. Moya won the first on a tie-break, before easily taking the second 11-4. The unseeded Japanese player fought back to take the third game, but the No.5 seed won the fourth to move through to the final. 

The final of the Kinetic Women’s Challenger will take place on Friday, November 25, with Wen Li Lai and Maria Moya doing battle for the Challenger 5 level title.
