HSC International Open SF: Unseeded El Torkey To Face Jaume In Final

25 June 2023

Egypt’s Kareem El Torkey, unseeded for the tournament, is through to the final of the HSC International Open, where he will face Bernat Jaume.

El Torkey came into the event unseeded, with his last appearance on Tour coming back at the CIB Egyptian Open, where he was one of two wildcards for the men’s draw at the Platinum level competition.

The 18-year-old had already gotten the better of No.4 seed Christopher Gordon and No.5 seed Ibrahim Elkabbani to reach the semi-finals of the Challenger 10 level competition. On Saturday, he came up against No.2 seed Muhammad Asim Khan, beating the Pakistani in five games.

It was Khan, the World No.68, that too a two-game advantage, and it looked like he was in complete control after winning the second game 11-2. However, the third game tie-break switched the momentum into the Egyptian’s favour.

El Torkey saved a single match ball before taking it 13-11 to extend the contest. He then went on to win the next two games comfortably, to secure his place in a first Tour final.

The Egyptian will now face Spain’s Bernat Jaume, the tournament’s top seed, for the title on Sunday. The Spaniard has only dropped one game so far in the event, and debated Guatemala’s Alejandro Enriquez in the semi-finals on Saturday evening in Houston.

The final of the HSC International Open will see Kareem El Torkey take on Bernat Jaume for the Challenger 10 level title. You can keep up to date with daily updates from the tournament on the PSA Challenger Tour’s Twitter and Facebook
