HSC International Open: Jaume Takes First Win In Two Years

26 June 2023

Spain’s Bernat Jaume secured his first Tour title since 2021, as he beat Kareem El Torkey to win the HSC International Open.

The Spaniard dropped just two games throughout the competition, starting with a four-game victory over tournament wildcard Hamza Sharif in the second round of the Challenger 10 level event.

Jaume then downed Pakistan’s Muhammad Ashab Irfan in straight games in the quarter finals, before then also beating Guatemala’s Alejandro Enriquez in three games in the last four of the tournament.

In the final, the Spaniard came up against the unseeded Kareem El Torkey, after the Egyptian had beaten three of the top five seeds. He took a two-game lead against El Torkey, but saw the unseeded Egyptian fight back to win the third on a tie-break. However, Jaume regrouped, winning the fourth 11-8 to secure the victory in Houston.
