HCL SRFI Jodhpur RD1: Six Indians Win On Home Soil

Six of the 16 matches on the opening day of the 4th HCL SRFI Indian Tour – Jodhpur Leg were won by Indians on home soil.

The Challenger 10 level tournament, which features both a men’s and women’s event in Jodhpur, got underway on Thursday, with 16 matches taking place at the Bodhi International School.

Four Indian women made their way into the second round of the competition, all coming through matches against compatriots. Urwashi Joshi got the better of Bijali Darvada, dropping just four points in a resounding 11-2, 11-1, 11-1 victory on the opening day. She will be joined in the second round by fellow Indian’s Sunayna Kuruvilla, Sunita Patel and Rathika Suthanthira Seelan.

Two more also went through in the men’s event, with Velavan Senthilkumar and Harinder Paul Singh Sandhu taking victories. Sandhu defeated Hong Kong’s Lam Shing Fung in four games, while Senthilkumar overcome compatriot Rahul Baitha to book his spot in the last 16, dropping just six points.

The second round of the 4th HCL SRFI Indian Tour – Jodhpur Leg will take place on Friday, November 18, with the seeded players in both draws beginning their campaigns.
