Hamilton Open RD1: Egyptian Quartet Among Those Through

The opening round of the Hamilton Open saw an Egyptian quartet among the eight players making it through to the last 16 of the Challenger 20 level event.

Menna Nasser started off the day’s play with her first round contest with Switzerland’s Ambre Allinckx. She took the first two games of their meeting, before seeing the Swiss woman take the third 11-8. Nasser regrouped to claim the fourth in a quick-fire match, in just 23 minutes.

She will be joined in the last 16 by compatriots Nardine Garas, Kenzy Ayman and Rana Ismail, with the three all winning in straight games to advance. Ayman and Ismail downed the tournament’s two wildcards, while Garas got the better of Brazil’s Bruna Marchesi Petrillo in just 18 minutes.

Elsewhere in the draw, Polish No.1 Karina Tyma defeated Colombian No.1 Laura Tovar in a four-game battle, while England’s Anna Kimberley, Mexico’s Diana Garcia and Indian Akanksha Salunkhe also booking their spots in the second round.
