Hamilton Open QF: Adderley Downs Top Seed

Scotland’s Georgia Adderley took a major scalp in the quarter finals of the Hamilton Open, defeating top seed Lucy Turmel to reach the last four in Lancaster.

The pair had met three times on Tour before, and despite having scored a win over the World No.30 previously, Adderley’s only triumph came back in 2017. Like that victory, though, this win in Lancaster also came in five games. 

The Scot lost the first, but fought back to win the next two games to lead in the contest. Turmel won the fourth game 11-7, before both women had their chances to win the tie in the fifth. It was a 28-point last game, in which both players had match balls, but eventually, it was Adderley that took the win 15-13, to book her spot in the semi-finals.

She will now face No.7 seed Hana Moataz in the last four, after the Egyptian defeated No.4 seed Nicole Bunyan. Moataz came into this event in good form off the back of winning the Life Time Chicago Open last week, and has continued her unbeaten run in the States to this point. She downed the Canadian in straight games to advance to the semis.

The other match in the last four will pit Scotland’s Lisa Aitken and England’s Lucy Beecroft. Aitken, the highest-ranked player in the draw at the start of the week, got the better of India’s Akanksha Salunkhe in straight games, while Beecroft, the No.5 seed, downed compatriot Anna Kimberley, also in three.

The semi-finals of the Hamilton Open will take place on Friday, October 28, with the last four doing battle to try and reach Saturday’s finals in Lancaster, PSA. Follow the live scores from the Challenger 20 level competition here.
