Hamilton Open: Moataz Makes It Back-To-Back Wins

30 October 2022

Egypt’s Hana Moataz got the better of England’s Lucy Beecroft in Saturday’s final to claim the Hamilton Open crown.

The Egyptian came into the tournament off the back of winning the Life Time Chicago Open Walker & Dunlop – The Hussain Family last week, and was the No.7 seed for the Challenger 20 level Hamilton Open this week.

After receiving a bye through the opening day’s action, Moataz got the better of compatriot Kenzy Ayman in the second round. She won in four to down her fellow Egyptian in 36 minutes, to move through to the quarter finals.

In the last eight, the World No.62 defeated No.4 seed Nicole Bunyan in of several upsets on Thursday. She then took on Scotland’s Georgia Adderley in the semi-finals in Greenwich, winging in a tight three games, including a third game tie-break which she took 12-10.

The final saw Moataz do battle with England’s Lucy Beecroft, and after losing the first game 11-9, the Egyptian came out firing. She won the second game 11-7, before carrying the momentum into the third game, which she claimed 11-8. The fourth was much more comfortable for the 22-year-old, who sealed the deal, claiming the Challenger 20 level crown, and her second victory in as many weeks.
