Faltami Squash Inn Classic RD1: Unseeded Mondragón Dispatches No.6 Seed For Last Eight Spot

The Faltami Squash Inn Classic got underway in Mexico City, and unseeded Julieta Mondragón ended No.6 seed Mary Mijas’s run in the competition at the first hurdle.

Mondragón, on home court, went two games up when she won both 11-3, before Mijas responded in the third with an 11-6 victory.

However Mondragón got back on top in the crucial fourth game, taking it 11-4 to advance to the quarter-finals where she will meet her fellow compatriot and No.4 seed Diana Gasca, who had her first round triumph sewn up in only 17 minutes – defeating Bianca Vallarta in straight games.

Meanwhile, the No.1 seed Diana Garcia sealed a quarter-final berth by overcoming Margarita Gomez 3-0, taking the games 11-2, 11-2, 11-6.

Lucia Bautista will be Garcia’s opponent in the last eight, and the Colombian also notched a straight games victory to progress – foiling Sofia Chavez.

Yasshmita Jadishkumar edged a five-game thriller against Yura Choe, winning 3-2: 11-4, 3-11, 11-6, 9-11, 11-6 in 52 minutes to tee up a quarter-final meeting with Maria Tovar.
