Edmonton Squash Club Open: Tournament Preview

29 March 2023

The second event to take place in the Americas this week will be on the Canadian soil, with the Edmonton Squash Club Open beginning on Thursday.

The Challenger 5 level competition will take place at the Edmonton Squash Club in Alberta, Canada. The event returns for its second year on the calendar, with Hong Kong’s Tang Ming Hong winning last year’s edition.

Compatriot Chung Yat Long was the runner-up last year in Edmonton. The World No.158 is back this year to try and go one better. He will be unseeded for the event, with compatriots Harley Lam and Matthew Lai both in the top eight seeds this week.

Czech Republican Viktor Byrtus is the top seed for the Challenger 5 level competition. The World No.105 will be aiming to claim a maiden Tour title this week. Malaysia’s Sanjay Jeeva will be the No.2 seed, with Brazil’s Diego Gobbi and Australian Joseph White making up the rest of the top eight seeds.

The other two seeds will feature on home soil. Liam Marrison and Connor Turk will both be seeded for the competition, with fellow Canadians Salah Eltorgman and Cory McCartney both also in action. Turk plays McCartney in the opening round, guaranteeing a Canadian in the quarter finals.

The event takes place from Thursday, March 30 to Sunday, April 2 at the Edmonton Squash Club. Follow the PSA Challenger Tour on Twitter and Facebook for daily updates from the event. Live scores are available on the PSA World Tour website here.
