ECP Open: Tournament Preview

23 May 2023

The last event on this year’s Tour de las Americas will be the ECP Open, which takes place this week, starting on Wednesday, May 24.

The five-day competition will feature a men’s Challenger 5 level tournament, which will be held at the Esporte Clube Pinheiros in Sao Paulo.

American Christopher Gordon will be the top seed for the event, and the only man inside the top 100 to be playing this week. The Colombian duo of Andres Herrera and Edgar Ramirez Bautista, along with the Brazilian duo of Guilherme Melo and Diego Gobbi will all be seeded.

Melo reached the final of this event on home soil last year, losing out to Guatemala’s Josue Enriquez. He will be looking to go one better this time round in Sao Paulo.

The pair will be joined by plenty of other home hopes in the event this week. In total, 11 of the 24-strong draw will hail from Brazil. Pedro Mometto will be among the 9/16 seeding bracket, while Murilo Penteado will be the leading Brazilian junior in the draw.

Paraguayan No.1 Francesco Marcantonio adds to the South American contingent inside the top eight seeds. Belgium No.1 Joeri Hapers and Dutchman Rowan Damming, the reigning World Junior Champion, will also be seeded.

The event takes place from Wednesday, May 24 to Sunday, May 28 at the Esporte Clube Pinheiros in Sao Paulo. Follow the PSA Challenger Tour on Twitter and Facebook for daily updates from the event.
