Danny Gamble Open: Harris Downs Top Two Seeds To Win

England’s Asia Harris secured her second title of the season, beating the top two seeds to lift the Danny Gamble Open trophy.

The Englishwoman came into the competition as the No.3 seed, and started her campaign with a confident straight-games win against Slovenia’s Nika Urh, who was featuring on Tour for the first time.

Harris then overcame compatriot Katie Wells in a five-game battle in the quarter finals. Wells took a two-game lead after winning both of the opening two games by an 11-9 scoreline. Harris fought back to take the next two comfortably, before then winning the deciding game 11-9 to advance.

The Englishwoman’s run continued with a win over the top seed in the semis. She defeated Singaporean No.1 Au Yeong Wai Yhann in straight games, with a second game tie-break being crucial to keep the momentum in her favour.

She would then have to go through two tie-breaks in the final, against Scotland’s Alison Thomson, the No.2 seed. The opener went her way 12-10, before she then doubled the lead with an 11-6 scoreline in the second. The third also went to a tie-break, and once again, it was Harris on the right end of the score. The Englishwoman won it 13-11 to secure the win, her second title of the season.
