Combaxx International Championships: Tournament Preview

The first of three tournaments kicking off on Wednesday, October 19 will be the CAS – Serena Hotels/Combaxx International Squash Championships.

The event will feature a men’s Challenger 30 level draw and a women’s Challenger 10 level competition, in a five-day tournament at the Mushaf Squash Complex in Islamabad, Pakistan.

Egypt’s Moustafa El Sirty, the World No.27, will lead the way in the men’s event. He will be joined by compatriots Mohamed ElSherbini and Yahya Elnawasany, along with Hungarian No.1 Balazs Farkas, as the tournament’s top four seeds. Yassin Elshafei will make it four Egyptians in the eight seeds, with England’s Charlie Lee, American Christopher Gordon and Qatari No.2 Syed Azlan Amjad all in that bracket.

Noor Zaman and Israr Ahmed will be the leading Pakistanis in the draw, both in the 9/16 seeding bracket. Six more home hopes will be in the men’s event. Ahsan Ayaz, Muhammad Ashab Irfan, Hamza Khan, Farhan Zaman, Farhan Mehboob and Zeeshan Zeb will be looking to impress on home soil.

German No.1 Saskia Beinhard will be the top seed for the women’s tournament, with the World No.63 facing competition for the title from Spain’s Marta Dominguez Fernandez and the Egyptian duo of Fayrouz Aboelkheir and Malak Khafagy. Singaporean No.1 Au Yeong Wai Yhann will also be among the seeds, along with Austrian No.1 Jacquline Peychar.

Three Pakistani women will be the 9/16 seeding bracket, with Noor ul Huda, Rushna Mehboob and Aiman Shahbaz being the leading home hopes in the draw. They will be joined by Zaynab Khan, Anam Mustafa Aziz, Saima Shoukat, Komal Khan, Sammer Anjum, Sadia Gul and Mehwish Ali.
