Colleyville Open: Seeds Fall On Quarters Day In Texas

Only one of the top four seeds will feature In the semi-finals of the Lifetime Colleyville Open tomorrow after more upsets took place on quarter finals day.

Canada’s Syan Singh continued to upset the seedings as he defeated top seed Saeed Abdul in straight games to secure a semi-final spot. Singh raced out to a 2-0 lead winning 11-4, 11-1 with Abdul having no answer. Singh closed out the match with an 11-7 third game, needing just 31 minutes to secure the victory.

Singh’s semi-final opponent will be No.8 seeded Bermudan Taylor Carrick after the 21-year-old overcame No.4 seed Mahmoud Abouelleil in three convincing games. Carrick was in a ruthless mood as he only needed 20 minutes to defeat the Egyptian. Restricting him to just nine points across all three games.

23-year-old Colombian Mathias Knudsen continued his fine run in the event as he defeated No.5 seed Ziad Sakr. The Colombian was also in a fierce mood as he also restricted his Egyptian opponent to just nine points in the clash and also won in just 20 minutes.

Knudsen will face No.2 seed Sebastien Salazar in the semi-finals after the Mexican battled his way back from 2-0 down to defeat Pakistan’s Abdul Malik Khan. Khan was in great form as he took the opening two games, winning 11-7, 11-6 and had a semi-final place within touching distance. Salazar had other ideas as he found an extra gear in the third game and after winning that game 11-6, won the fourth game as well.

Despite finding himself 9-7 down in the fifth, it was Salazar who earned the first match ball last 10-9 and after three failed attempts at closing out the match, the Mexican finally did it at 14-12 to reach the final four.
