Christianson Classic SF: Avila and Evans Aim For Title

29 January 2023

The final of the Christianson Classic is set, with Mexican Alfredo Avila and Welshman Emyr Evans ready to do battle for the first time.

Avila, who won five times on Tour in 2022, will be aiming for another title to start 2023. He got through to the final after a straight games win over the last Canadian hope left in the draw, Liam Marrison. The first two games were comfortable, before a fight in the third. The Canadian, buoyed on by home support, took it to a tie-break, but Avila came through it 14-12 to secure the win in three and to move into another final.

He will now take on Wales’ Emyr Evans for the first time, after the tournament’s No.2 seed prevented an all-Mexican final. He got the better of Miled Zarazua, also in straight games, to book a place in the final, as he aims for a second Tour title.

The Christianson Classic will come to its conclusion on Sunday, January 29, with Avila and Evans trying to win the Challenger 5 crown. You can keep up to date with daily updates from the tournament on the PSA Challenger Tour’s Twitter and Facebook
