Christianson Classic QF: Marrison Leads Home Hopes

28 January 2023

Canadian Liam Marrison leads home hopes into the semi-finals of the Christianson Classic in Medicine Hat, Alberta.

Marrison came into the draw as the leading Canadian, and after the quarter finals of the Challenger 5 level competition, he remains the only home hope left in the draw.

In the last eight, he came up against Mexico’s Carlos Vargas, and after winning the opening game in a tie-break, he then lost the second 11-5. However from there, he fought to win both the third and fourth games to secure victory, and to move into the semi-finals.

He will now take on top seed Alfredo Avila in the last four of the competition, after the Mexican overcame Colombia’s Nicolas Serna in straight games. The other semi-final will see Welshman Emyr Evans take on another Mexican, in No.7 seed Miled Zarazua, with the latter coming through a five-game battle to make the last four.

The semis of the Christianson Classic will take place on Saturday, January 28. You can keep up to date with daily updates from the tournament on the PSA Challenger Tour’s Twitter and Facebook
