Challenger Tour Weekly Preview: Events On Both Sides Of The World

For the second week in succession, the Challenger Tour will feature three tournaments this week, with action taking place in Australia, Canada and Mexico over the next seven days.

Over the last week, there have been victories for Hong Kong’s Tsz Kwan Lau and Tsz-Wing Tong at the City of Devonport Tasmanian Open, with the former becoming the first male two-time winner on Tour in the 2022-2023 campaign.

USA’s Timothy Brownell was victorious for the second time on home soil this year following his win at the Sam Aguiar Louisville Open, while the weekend ended with Hungary’s Balazs Farkas and German Katerina Tycovataking the spoils at the Madeira International.

The biggest event of this week’s action will be the Challenger 20 level Nash Cup, which will take Ontario, Canada. The Tour continues in Australia as well, with the Eastside Open, before the Copa Mexico Temazcal rounds out the week’s action.

Here is what is going on over the next seven days on Tour…

Nash Cup
The first tournament of the week will also be the biggest, with the Challenger 20 level Nash Cup getting underway on Tuesday, September 13 at the London Squash Club in Ontario, Canada.

The five-day tournaments is one of the stalwarts of the Tour, and England’s Nathan Lake will be the top seed for the men’s event. He will be joined in the top four seeding bracket by Hong Kong’s Henry Leung, Canadian No.1 David Baillargeon and Mexico’s Arturo Salazar.

Latvia’s Ineta Mackevica will be the women’s top seed, with American Haley Mendez aiming for glory on home soil. England’s Lucy Beecroft will be the No.3 seed for the competition, and she will also be the defending champion, having taken the crown in 2021.

Eastside Open
The Australian swing of tournaments continues this week with the Eastside Open, which will feature a Challenger 5 level men’s and Challenger 3 level women’s draw. Eastside Squash Centre will play host to the tournament, which takes place from Wednesday, September 14 to Sunday, September 18.

New Zealand’s Lwamba and Temwa Chileshe will be among the top seeds for the competition, with Switzerland’s Robin Gadola and Filipino No.1 Robert Andrew Garcia rounding out the top four seeds. Rhys Dowling and Nicholas Calvert will be the only Aussies in the top eight seeding bracket.

The women’s Challenger 3 level competition will be led by Hong Kong’s Cheng Nga Ching, who will have compatriot Ching Fei Hung and the Pakistani duo of Noor ul Huda and Aiman Shahbaz for company in the top four seeds.

Copa Mexico Temazcal
The final event of the week will be the Challenger 3 level Copa Mexico Temazcal, which will take place from Thursday, September 15 – Sunday, September 18 at Squash Temazcal in Cocoyoc Morelos, Mexico.

The Mexican duo of Alejandro Reyes and Miled Zarazua will be the top two seeds for the four-day competition, with Egypt’s Abdelrahman Nasser in close contention. The Czech Republic, Canada, Colombia and the United States will all be represented in the draw.
