Challenger Tour Weekly Preview: Monte Carlo & Niort Headline Schedule

6 November 2023

There are five events on the Challenger Tour this week, with 20k tournaments in Monaco and France headlining the schedule.

The Monte Carlo Classic kicks off proceedings, beginning on November 6th and streaming live on YouTube throughout the tournament.

Wales’ Emily Whitlock will begin as the No.1 seed, topping an entry list that includes three English players and two Egyptians among the seeds.

The English contingent is led by No.2 seed Lucy Turmel, fresh from her run to the SA Open final last week, with Grace Gear and Mille Tomlinson also entering the draw in round two.

Mariam Metwally and Hana Moataz are the third and fourth seeds respectively, with Enora Villard and Georgia Adderley making up the rest of the top eight.

A day after the action starts in Monaco, the Open International Niort Venise Verte gets underway on the west side of France, marking week three of the Green Squash Tour.

Iker Pajares Bernabeu is the No.1 seed, looking to emulate his fellow Spaniard Borja Golan, the winner of this event 12 months ago.

Golan lifted the trophy as the No.3 seed, a spot occupied this year by the Czech Republic’s Martin Svec. Scotland’s Rory Stewart is the No.2 seed, having reached the quarter-finals as the No.6 seed last year, with Edwin Clain leading the home charge, as the only Frenchman among the seeds at No.8.

Across the Atlantic, there are three events in the Americas this week, separated by more than 6,000 miles in total.

All three begin on November 8th, with the RGSA Open de Squash taking place in the Brazilian city of Sao Caetano do Sul, the SACC Costa Rica Open happening in the Costa Rican capital of San Jose, and the Richardson Wealth Van Lawn Open players descending on Vancouver.

Latvia’s Ineta Mackevica and England’s Torrie Malik are the top two seeds in Costa Rica, with talented young American Caroline Fouts also among the seeds.

England’s Nathan Lake and the USA’s Faraz Khan top the billing in Vancouver, with home hopes looking slim as no Canadians are among the seeds.

There will, however, be high hopes of a home winner at the RGSA Open De Squash, with four Brazilians among the top eight seeds.

Sao Paulo’s Diego Gobbi is the No.1 seed, and is targeting a second PSA Tour title, two years after winning his first on home soil, the 2021 X5 Squash Open.
