Challenger Tour Weekly Preview: Lone Event in Toronto

27 February 2023

The North American swing on the Challenger Tour continues this week, with just a single tournament being held in Toronto, Canada.

The event follows on from two competitions on the continent in the last seven days, with the MRU Open being held in Calgary, while the CSC Delaware Open was played on American soil in Delaware.

This week, the Guilfoyle PSA Squash Classic is the sole tournament taking place, with the event being held in Toronto, Canada from Wednesday, March 1 to Saturday, March 4.

Here is what is taking place this week on the Challenger Tour…

Guilfoyle PSA Squash Classic
The lone event of the week will be the Challenger 10 level Guilfoyle PSA Squash Classic, with the event being held at the Toronto Cricket, Skating and Curling Club from Wednesday, March 1 to Saturday, March 4.

Two former winners of the competition will be in action in Toronto this week. Argentinian No.1 Leandro Romiglio was the victor in 2017, while home favourite David Baillargeon won this event in 2019. Once again, he will be the leading Canadian in action after winning in Calgary at the MRU Open on Sunday.

The American trio of Todd Harrity, Faraz Khan and Timothy Brownell will all be in the top five seeds for the Challenger 10 level competition this week, with World No.38 Harrity as the top seed. England’s Nathan Lake will be his nearest competitor following on from a good week in Washington D.C. at the Squash On Fire Open.

Compatriot Curtis Malik and Hong Kong’s Tsz Kwan Lau will join Baillargeon and Romiglio as the rest of the eight seeds. Alfredo Avila, Abhay Singh, Christopher Gordon, Spencer Lovejoy and Ben Smith were all in action in Calgary last week and will be again here. The tournament’s wildcard will be Canada’s Liam Marrison.
