Challenger Tour: Weekly Preview

12 September 2023

Challenger Tour action comes from three countries this week on the Challenger Tour as events take place from South Africa, Brazil and two events in the USA.

The first event of the week kicks off today in Johannesburg as the Assore/Baldwin Joburg Open commences with both a men’s and women’s 3k taking place. Home favourite Dewald van Niekerk is the top seed in the men’s event whilst Egypt’s Menna Walid tops the women’s draw.

The Quique Squash Brazil Open is the next to start this week as the 6k men’s event commences on the 13 September. The event will take place at Quique Squash Clube in Cianorte with France’s Toufik Mekhalfi topping the draw.

Also starting on the 13th is the Squash Inspire-Abbas Family Season Opener 2023, taking place from Maryland, USA. Florida-based Englishman Tom Walsh is the top seed for the event and will be looking to claim a third PSA title. France’s Edwin Claim is the No.2 seed for the event, the pair met at the World Championships Qualifying event earlier this year with Clain winning that clash.

The final event of the week is a Challenger 30 with many World Tour players descending on Charlottesville to compete for the title. PSA Young Player of the Season and World No.22 Leonel Cardenas is the top seed for the event whilst he will face tough competition from the likes of England’s Nathan lake, France’s Sebastien Bonmalais and Egypt’s Yahya Elnawasany.
