Challenger Tour Weekly Preview

22 August 2023

This week on the PSA Challenger Tour, action comes from Australia and Malaysia for the Jansher Khan Canberra Open (men’s & women’s 6k) and the Tuanku Muhriz Trophy (men’s & women’s 15k) as players look to claim the event titles.

The Jansher Khan Canberra Open draws are topped by Indian duo Velevan Senthilkumar and Akanksha Salunkhe. The former was a beaten finalist in the recent North Coast Open but showed great form on route to reaching the 12k event final. Salunke last featured in PSA action in June, as she reached the quarter finals of the Champion Fiberglass Women’s Open in Houston. She will face tough competition from the recent women’s North Coast Open champion and compatriot Tanvi Khanna, who comes in as No.4 seed.

The top seeds for the Tuanku Mahriz Trophy are India’s Abhay Singh and home favourite Sivasangari Subramaniam. Singh will be looking to capture his eight title but will face strong competition from other seeds Muhammad Asim Khan, Ivan Yuen and recent North Coast Open men’s winner Addeen Idrakie.

The women’s event is a stacked field full of quality players, all looking to claim the title and start the season in the right fashion. Sivasangari Subramaniam has dropped down the rankings due to missing events due to her injury and can boost her ranking back up to get into the major events with a win in her home country this week. Tough competition will come from compatriot Aira Azman, who is expected to make big strides this season.
