Challenger Tour Round-Up: Koch Earns Stunning First Tour Win

21 September 2023

Teenager Finn Koch produced a stunning upset to record his first PSA Tour win as the Schräglage Squash Open got underway in Böblingen.

Ranked at No.508 in the world, the young German outlasted Austria’s Lukas Windischberger in a five-game match that lasted close to an hour.

Koch will now face top seed Yannik Omlor – a player ranked more than 400 places higher than him – in an all-German round-two clash.

In the women’s draw, Maya Weishar is the only German player remaining, after beating Suzanne Peters in three games.

Elsewhere, top seed Rowan Damming needed only 20 minutes to book his spot in the I SPAC Open quarter-finals, dropping just eight points in his win over Baptiste Bouin.

Damming was one of seven seeds progressing through to the last eight in Sao Paulo, with Maceo Levy suffering the only upset, going down in four games to Colombia’s Matias Knudsen.

Across the South Atlantic, hopes of a home winner came to an end on day one of the BDO Namibian Open, as all 10 local players went out.

Arno Diekmann was the only seeded player amongst them, coming in as seventh seed in the men’s draw, but his tournament was ended by South Africa’s Diodivine Meluleki Mkhize.
