Calgary CFO Consulting Services PSA Women’s Squash Week: Adderley Claims Biggest Career Title

18 March 2024

Scottish No.1 Georgia Adderley claimed the biggest title of her career so far, beating Salma Eltayeb to win the Calgary CFO Consulting Services PSA Women’s Squash Week.

Adderley entered this event as the No.2 seed but had only ever won 3K and 5K tournaments on the PSA Tour before, with her last taste of glory coming back in 2021.

But she now has a 20K title to her name, after edging the young Egyptian 3-2 in this final in Alberta, Canada.

The match itself swung back and forth between the two players, with none of the five games won by fewer than four points.

Twice Adderley took a one-game lead, winning games one and three 11-7 and 11-4 respectively, but twice she was pegged back by the 19-year-old from Cairo, who took game two 11-7 and then forced a decider by winning the fourth 11-6.

Crucially, though, Adderley opened up a notable lead in game five, winning four points in a row to move from 2-1 down to 5-2 up.

From there, she dominated proceedings, moving swiftly from 6-4 to 11-4, reeling off five straight points in less than three minutes to complete the victory, letting out a huge cry of emotion as an Eltayeb forehand hit the tin on her first match ball.

“I’m absolutely over the moon,” Adderley said to a junior reporter at the club after her win.

“I came into the event as one of the higher seeds and that always comes with a lot of pressure, but I felt like I dealt with that really well. I was pretty happy with the way I played today and I’m over the moon.

“It’s my first title in a long time so I’m very happy.”

Result:
[2] Georgia Adderley (SCO) bt [3] Salma Eltayeb (EGY) 3-2: 7-11, 11-7, 11-4, 6-11, 11-4 (48m)
