Brussels Dronsfields SF: Unseeded Pelaez To Face Marshall In Final

28 May 2023

Colombia’s Catalina Pelaez is through to the final of the Brussels Dronsfields Mercedes Benz after beating a third seeded player and she will take on England’s Kiera Marshall for the title.

Pelaez had already downed the two seeds, including the tournament’s top seed, Malaysia’s Yasshmita Jadishkumar, on route to the semi-finals. She came up against Spain’s Sofia Mateos in the last four to try and reach the final.

The Colombian continued to show why she reached a career-high of World No.56 earlier in her career. She dropped just 12 points in a resounding straight games victory to move through to the final.

England’s Kiera Marshall will be the Colombian’s opponent in the final on Sunday. The Englishwoman found herself behind in her last four contest with No.3 seed Lea Barbeau, after the Frenchwoman won both the second and third games on tie-breaks.

The third went all the way to 17-15, but Marshall was able to regroup and fight back strongly. She won the fourth 1-4, before then taking that momentum into the deciding fifth game. Marshall was able to come through it 11-8 to take the win after 61 minutes of action, advancing to the final.

The final of the Brussels Dronsfields Mercedes Benz, between Catalina Pelaez and Kiera Marshall, will take place on Sunday, May 28. You can keep up to date with daily updates from the tournament on the PSA Challenger Tour’s Twitter and Facebook
