Bremer Schlüssel 2024: Preview & How to Watch Live

23 July 2024

The final week of the 2023/24 season is here, and it’s headlined by the Bremer Schlüssel, a 15k men’s event in the northern German city of Bremen.

A trio of Egyptians top the entry list, with Ibrahim Elkabbani the No.1 seed, looking to win his third title of the season.

The previous two both came in 15k tournaments, at the SA Open and the Oasis Pools & Spas Manitoba Open, helping to move the 21-year-old up inside the world’s top 60.

A potentially tricky second-round test awaits Elkabbani in the form of rising Welsh talent Rhys Evans, should Evans get past wildcard Taha Elshafei on the opening day.

The Welshman won his first 6k title at the start of June and is set to end the season more than 100 places higher in the rankings than where he started it, and is appearing this week as a [9/16] seed in what is his biggest tournament to date.

Also standing in Elkabbani’s potential path to the final could be fellow Egyptian Yassin Elshafei and Wales’ Owain Taylor, seeded No.3 and No.5 respectively.

Both players have enjoyed success in recent months, with Elshafei winning the BRESS Breda Open and Taylor the Berkhamsted Linksap Open, and they will go head-to-head in the quarter-finals should both players get that far.

Also targeting glory is No.2 seed Mazen Gamal, who, at 38 years of age, is playing the 162nd PSA Tour event of his career.

Gamal is the highest seed in a tough bottom half of the draw, which also features fourth seed Alejandro Enriquez, sixth seed Mohamed Nasser and former world junior champion Rowan Damming.

Damming has endured a somewhat frustrating season, reaching one final and six semi-finals in his first nine events, but he does come into this week in good form, having got over the line to lift the Trident Homes South Island Open trophy in his most recent outing.

Nasser, meanwhile, is hoping to make it a hat-trick of titles to end the season in style.

The 20-year-old had never won a Challenger Tour event before May, but has strung together an eight-match winning streak across his last two events, to take home the trophy on both occasions.

Nasser will open his quest for more glory on day two against either Khaled Labib or Jared Carter, who will contest the second match of day one.

Every match from the Bremer Schlüssel will stream live on the SQUASHTV Live Streaming YouTube channel, kicking off at 1pm local time (12pm BST) on Tuesday, July 23rd

We will also have in-depth coverage of the event all week long on the PSA Challenger Tour social media channels.
