Bordeaux Gradignan SF: Aubert Downs Coleman To Reach Final

After a monster 90-minute semi-final, Frenchman Benjamin Aubert is into the final of the PSA Bordeaux Gradignan on home soil.

Aubert came into the tournament unseeded, and had produced surprise result after surprise result to make it through to the last four, where he came u against No.8 seed Ben Coleman. 

In front of his adoring home crowd, Aubert started strongly, and raced into a two-game lead. Coleman, who has been inside the top 50 in the World Rankings previously, showed his class and grit in the third game. He saved several match balls in a tie-break to extend the contest, winning the third 17-15. However, the Frenchman fought back to claim victory with an 11-8 scoreline in the fourth. After 90 minutes, Aubert booked his spot in the final of the Challenger 10 level competition.

He will now face Scotland’s Rory Stewart in the final on Sunday after the World No.66 overcame Portuguese No.1 Rui Soares in four games. The Scot took the first game 11-8, but saw the tournament’s No.2 seed level the match in the second. From there, though, Stewart was able to dominate the tie, winning both the third and fourth 11-5 to advance to the final.

The final of the PSA Bordeaux Gradignan will take place on Sunday, October 30 at Squash Bad 33 in the French city of Bordeaux. Home favourite Benjamin Aubert will face Scotland’s Rory Stewart for the crown. You can keep up to date with live scores from the tournament here.
