Bangbandhu RD2: Amirul and Lee Survive Five-Gamers

The second round of the 2nd Bangabandhu Squash Tournament Presented by Ishaphani Ltd took place on Thursday afternoon in Dhaka, with two Malaysians scraping through five-game battles to make the last eight.

No.2 seed Duncan Lee took on Iran’s Mohammad Kashani in the second round, and after winning the opening two games of their contest, he was in control. However, the Iranian fought back to level the match after four and send it into a decider, where Lee had to dig deep, winning it 11-5 to book his spot in the last eight.

Compatriot Amir Amirul, the tournament’s No.4 seed, found himself behind twice in his second round match. The Malaysian lost both the first and third games in Dhaka, but battled back to level the match on both occasions. He then carried the momentum into the fifth game, taking a quick-fire encounter 3-2 in 37 minutes. 

Elsewhere in the last 16, top seed Ammar Altamimi got the better of fellow Kuwaiti Athbi Hamad in a four-game battle, while Sri Lankan No.1 Ravindu Laksiri got the better of No.5 seed Sepehr Etemadpoor to make it through to the quarter finals.

The quarter finals of the 2nd Bangabandhu Squash Tournament Presented by Ishaphani Ltd will take place on Friday, October 7, with the last eight doing battle to try and make it into the semi-finals in Dhaka.
