Bangabandhu RD1: Busy First Day In Dhaka

The first round of the 2nd Bangabandhu Squash Tournament Presented by Ishaphani Ltd took place in Dhaka on Wednesday. There was plenty of action, with twelve matches being played at the Gulshan Club in the Bangladeshi capital.

Due to a couple of late withdrawals, the tournament’s top two seeds both received byes through to the last 16. Top seed Ammar Altamimi will now face Athbi Hamad in an all-Kuwaiti battle on the second day. Hamad got the better of one of four wildcards, MD Shorif, in straight games, to move into the last 16.

Meanwhile, Malaysia’s Duncan Lee, the No.2 seed, will face off against Iran’s Mohammad Kashani in the second round. Kashani is one of three Iranian into the second round, alongside Sepehr Etemadpoor and Sami Ghasedabadi, who both won in three on the opening day.

Elsewhere, No.3 seed Ziad Ibrahim and No.14 seed Yusuf Elsherif have set up an all-Egyptian second round battle, while Sri Lankan No.1 Ravindu Laksiri and two home hopes, in Md Shumon and Md Shahadat Hossain all made it through to the second round.
