Anahat & Abhay Singh capture titles at JSW Willingdon Little Masters & Senior Tournament

17 January 2024

Indian duo Anahat and Abhay Singh were crowned the JSW Willingdon Little Masters & Senior Tournament champions after claiming straight-game wins in their respective finals.

The pair, who captured a bronze medal for Team India in the Asian Games mixed doubles last year, once again tasted success together as they came away triumphant from the 3k event in Mumbai.

The No.1 seed in the women’s event, Anahat Singh, captured a maiden PSA Tour title from just her third attempt, coming away a comfortable winner from her title decider against Japan’s Erisa Sano Herring.

The Indian squash prodigy, who turns 16 in March, raced out of the blocks against No.2 seed Herring and never looked back. After taking the opening two games 11-4 and 11-3, Singh kept her composure in a tighter third game to seal the match after just 21 minutes of action.

Meanwhile, men’s top seed Abhay Singh claimed his first title since February 2023 after an equally dominant win over compatriot Suraj Kumar Chand.

Singh, whose late heroics at the Asian Games last year helped India claim a historic men’s team gold medal, won a nip-and-tuck opening game 11-9 – a moment which would prove decisive in the match. From there, the 25-year-old began to move through the gears, dropping just seven points over the course of the next two games and securing the eighth title of his PSA Tour career after 21 minutes on court.
