2nd Kuwait International Championship: Tournament Preview

The 2nd Kuwait International Squash Championship gets underway this week in Hawally, Kuwait, with 24 players aiming for glory in the second event to be held in the country this year.

The tournament follows on from the 1st Kuwait International Squash Championship, which was won by top seed Auguste Dussourd at the end of September.

Egypt’s Yassin Elshafei will be the top seed for the event, with compatriots Khaled Labib and Seif Shenawy among the nearest challengers for the title. The Czech Republic’s Martin Svec will be the other member of the world’s top 100 in action, and the No.2 seed for the competition.

Hong Kong’s Wong Chi Him and Tang Ming Hong will also be seeded for the tournament, along with Englishman Perry Malik and Kuwaiti No.1 Ammar Altamimi, who will be the home favourite in Hawally.

Altamimi will be one of six Kuwaitis in action at the tournament. He will be joined by Abdullah Almezayen, Athbi Hamad, Falah Mohammad, Mohammad Almasoud and Ali Alamezi, the last three of whom being the event’s wildcards.

The event takes place from Saturday, November 19 to Wednesday, November 23 at the Sheikh Salem Sabah Al Salem International Squash Complex in Hawally. Follow the PSA Challenger Tour on Twitter and Facebook for daily updates from the event.
