2nd Bangamata international SF: Elkabbani and Shenawy Into Final

11 March 2023

The top two seeds, Egypt’s Ibrahim Elkabbani and Seif Shenawy, will meet in the final of the 2nd Bangamata International Squash Tournament presented by SA Group.

The Challenger 5 level competition has been played at the Chittagong Club Ltd in the Bangladeshi city of Chattogram all week, with the Egyptian duo entering the tournament as the No.1 and No.2 seeds.

Top seed Elkabbani took on the event’s surprise package, Hazem Hossam, in the semi-finals. The No.16 seed had downed two of the top five seeds to reach the las four in his debut event, but Elkabbani was too strong. The World No.78 only dropped nine points en route to a straight goes victory, to move through to the final.

He will now face compatriot and No.2 seed Seif Shenawy on Saturday in Chattogram. Shenawy got the better of Hong Kong’s Matthew Lai in a tight four-game contest, needing two tie-breaks at the start to overcome the No.10 seed. The Egyptian won the first 12-10, before then seeing the second go even deeper into a tie-break. He claimed that 15-13, and although Lai won the third, he went on to take the fourth to secure the victory.

The final of the 2nd Bangamata International Squash Tournament will be played on Saturday, March 11, with the Egyptian duo of Ibrahim Elkabbani and Seif Shenawy going head-to-head for the Challenger 5 level crown.
