Bangamata Squash Tournament: Elshafei Claims Victory in Chittagong

22 March 2022

Egypt’s Yassin Elshafei took the title at the Bangamata Squash Tournament – Presented by SA Group on Tuesday afternoon in Chittagong, after a five-game victory over India’s Abhishek Agarwal in the final of the Challenger 5 level tournament.

The Egyptian came into the event as the top seed, and received a bye through the opening round thanks to his seeding. He then began his campaign in the last 16 of the competition, beating No.15 seed Jaideep Singh Sethi in straight games.

Elshafei would not drop a game until he final of the tournament, as he also defeated No.5 seed Noor Zaman and Iranian No.1 Alireza Shameli, the No.4 seed, also in three, with none of his early matches lasting more than 35 minutes.

The final was a different story though, as the 20-year-old came up against India’s Abhishek Agarwal, the tournament’s No.2 seed and it was a match that saw the momentum shift several times Elshafei led twice, only for the Indian to level the match on both occasions, but it was the top seed that eventually got the job done, winning in 65 minutes to claim his second Tour title.
