Iranian Navy Army: Shameli Claims Third Title On Home Soil

Top seed Alireza Shameli has claimed the title at the Commemoration of the Martyrs of the Iranian Navy Army, his third in as many events on home soil in Iran, after winning twice in the country in 2021.

Shameli came into the tournament as the top seed, and the favourite to take home the Challenger 3 level crown at the end of four days of play at the Heydarnia Squash Complex in Tehran.

He received a bye through to the quarter finals of the competition due to a late withdrawal, and then proceeded to overcome the challenge of No.5 seed Soheil Shameli in four games in the last eight of the competition, before then downing No.4 seed Sami Ghasedabadi by the same scoreline in the semis.

In the final, Shameli downed No.3 seed Sepehr Etemadpoor 11-9, 11-6, 11-8 to win the Commemoration of the Martyrs of the Iranian Navy Army, and claim the third title of his professional career, all on home soil.
