Gatineau PSA Challenger: Sachvie Downs Top Two Seeds For Title

8 November 2021

Canada’s Nick Sachvie has claimed his first title on the Tour since 2019 with confident performances over the top two seeds to win the Gatineau PSA Challenger this weekend.

The Challenger 5 level tournament was held with domestic restrictions on entrants, meaning only those currently based in Canada were allowed to participate at Sportheque in Gatineau.

Sachvie came into the event as the No.3 seed and as the nearest challenger to the two players ranked inside the top 100 in the World Rankings. He started his campaign in the second round with a comfortable win over wildcard Maxym Leclair.

The World No.120 then got the better of No.7 seed Maximilien Godbout in a straight games, 30-minute victory to book his place in the semi-finals. In the last four, he downed No.2 seed Shawn DeLierre in just 26 minutes to secure his fourth straight win over his compatriot.

Sachvie took on the tournament’s top seed, and Canadian No.1, David Baillargeon, in the final in Gatineau. After 50 minutes of action, it was the World No.120 that secured the crown, completing his tournament with yet another straight games win as he came through the entire event without dropping a single game.
