Holmes Naden Prestbury Squash Open: Taylor and Malik Successful

25 October 2021

The English duo of Lily Taylor and Curtis Malik were victorious at the Holmes Naden Prestbury Squash Open in Macclesfield on Sunday evening, with the latter claiming his maiden PSA Tour title.

Malik came into the event as the No.2 seed, and started his campaign against Frenchman Rohan Mandil in the opening round, winning in straight games.

He then defeated Scotland’s John Meehan, also in three, before coming up against brother Perry in the semi-finals. A tight match between the siblings went the way of Curtis, who won it 3-1 to book his place in the final.

The Englishman then came up against compatriot Charlie Lee in the final, the tournament’s top seed. Malik required just three games, winning in 43 minutes to claim his first title as a professional.

The women’s event was won by Lily Taylor, who carried on her fine form on the Challenger Tour, after having won the Moscow Squash Open earlier this month. She started with a comfortable win against Scotland’s Catherine Holland in the opening round.

The Englishwoman then downed Egypt’s Rana Ismail in a four-game duel in the quarter-finals, before getting the better of compatriot Kace Bartley in straight games to make it through to the final.

She came up against 17-year-old Torrie Malik in the final in Macclesfield, and was in control from the off. Taylor claimed the win in under half an hour, securing her second title in October.
