CIB Egyptian Challenger Tour: Tournament Preview

Cairo International Stadium plays host to the CIB Egyptian Challenger Tour event this week, with the Challenger 10 level tournament taking place from Wednesday 14 to Sunday 18 July.

The event has only allowed domestic entrants, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, with Mexico’s Diana Garcia and Iraqi Mohamed Ferman Hassan being the only two non-Egyptians in the 48-strong field.

Garcia will be the top seed in the women’s draw, and the World No.80 will face competition from Salam Eltayeb, Nour Aboulmakarim and Kenzy Ayman, all Egyptian juniors, for the title. In total, there will be 20 juniors in action in the women’s draw, with only Garcia, Habiba Hossam, Malak Kamal and Nada Ehab over the age of 19.

Moustafa El Sirty and Yahya Elnawasany headline the men’s draw, and the pair will expect to meet again in the final come Sunday afternoon. Their main competition will come in the form of Ahmed Hosny and Omar ElKattan.
