City of Peterborough Open: Scots Adderley and Stewart Take Spoils

5 July 2021

The Scottish duo of Georgia Adderley and Rory Stewart were victorious at the City of Peterborough Squash & Racketball Club Open this weekend, with the pair beating English opponents in their respective finals.

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the Challenger 3 level tournament was held with only domestic entrants. Only those currently residing in the United Kingdom were allowed to play in the event, held at the Peterborough Town Sports Club.

Georgia Adderley, the women’s World No.99, came into the tournament as the No.3 seed, and started her weekend’s work with a win over Polly Clark, before she then got the better of compatriot Katriona Allen in the quarter-finals.

The 20-year-old defeated wildcard Elise Lazarus, who had taken out the event’s top seed earlier on in the tournament, in the semis, before overcoming No.2 seed Alicia Mead in the final to claim her first title on the Tour.

Fellow Scot Rory Stewart was the victor in the men’s draw, and he started his campaign in Peterborough with a win over Welshman Owain Taylor.

After wins against Harry Falconer and Tom Walsh, two of the top six seeds in the tournaments, Stewart made his way into the final, where he came up against No.4 seed Miles Jenkins. He defeated the Englishman in four games, winning in just under an hour to claim the second title of his career.
