Odense Open: Tournament Preview

The sole qualifier for the 2020-2021 PSA World Championships takes place this week in Denmark, with the Odense Open being played at Squash Club Danmark from Tuesday 15 to Saturday 19 June.

It will be the third year that the event has been held, and the first time that there has been a women’s draw at the tournament. Spain’s Cristina Gomez leads the draw, with the World No.72 being one of nine players inside the top 100 of the World Rankings in the event.

Those include two juniors in Egypt’s Nour Aboulmakarim and Hungary’s Hannah Chukwu, the British trio of Alison Thomson, Lily Taylor and Georgia Adderley, and Polish history-maker Karina Tyma.

Japanese No.1, and World No.68, Ryosei Kobayashi will be the top seed in the men’s draw, with the Egyptian duo of Yahya Elnawasany and Moustafa El Sirty, and Colombia’s Juan Camilo Vargas, all in the top five seeds.

The No.2 seed for the tournament will be USA’s Faraz Khan, who has less pressure this week, having already secured his place in the World Championships, after winning the Wild Card Playoff in Philadelphia this weekend.

The event takes place from Tuesday 15 to Saturday 19 June at the Squash Club Danmark in Odense, where places for the World Championships will be secured. Follow the PSA Challenger Tour on Twitter and Facebook for daily updates from the event.
