SquashBerek Open: Balazs Aiming To Break Top 50

12 March 2021

The last event of the week on the PSA Challenger Tour will be the SquashBerek Open, which will take place over the weekend in Tatabanya, Hungary.

Like all current events on the PSA World Tour, the event will only feature players living in Hungary, meaning that the 16-strong draw in both the men’s and women’s will all be domestic entrants.

The women’s draw will be led by World No.150 Hannah Chukwu, who at the age of 17-years-old, has already secured the Hungarian No.1 spot, and is a potential star of the game.

She will face challenges from World No.260 Csenge Kiss-Mate, Fatime Farkas and Gabriella Csokasi, the rest of the top four seeds for the tournament.

World No.90 Farkas Balazs, a five-time winner on the PSA Challenger Tour, will be the top seed, and favourite, for the men’s title. He sits 420 places above his nearest rival in the World Rankings, but he is not taking anything for granted this week.

“I am really happy that I can play a PSA tournament in my country. I last played PSA event a long time ago so I can’t wait to play again,” Balazs explained.

“There are so many good Hungarian players so I have to fight for the title and get some good points and more experience.”

The Hungarian explained that his next goal is to break into the top 50 in the World Rankings, but he also admitted that it would not be an easy journey to get there.

“I am the top seed yes, so I try to play my best squash at the weekend and focus every points and games.

“I am training a lot, and as hard as I can so I can’t wait to play more events. I have to improve myself and train more and more. I would like to reach the top 50 but it’s really hard so I have to stay motivated and working as hard as possible.”

The event takes place from Saturday 13 to Sunday 14 at the SquashBerek Sports Center in Tatabanya, where Farkas Balazs and Hannah Chukwu are the top seeds for the tournament. Follow the PSA Challenger Tour on Twitter and Facebook for daily updates from the event.
