CIB Black Ball Open: Waters Downs Wild Card Nasser

8 December 2020

The experience of England’s Alison Waters paid off in the first round of the CIB Black Ball Squash Open in Cairo, as she got the better of wild card Menna Nasser to book her place in tomorrow’s last 16.

The Englishwoman, who at 36 years of age is one of the oldest female players on the PSA World Tour, showed that she has lost none of her skills and ability during this clash, keeping the Egyptian at bay throughout.

The match lasted just 23 minutes, with Waters allowing her younger opponent to notch up just twelve points across the entire contest, as she dominated from start to finish.

The Englishwoman will face Nouran Gohar in the second round of the PSA World Tour Gold event, and said that the pressure is all on the World No.2 tomorrow evening.

“You have to celebrate an ace, it doesn’t happen! I was pleased with how I played. I was pretty solid throughout and I felt like I was moving well so that was all I wanted to do. I just wanted to try and move well. I was disappointed with the way the game slipped away from me in Egypt last time so I wanted to come out and put in a good performance,” Waters said.

“I saw bits of her [Nouran Gohar’s] match. It looked like a big tussle and I haven’t played her for a while. We have had a few tough battles so I am, looking forward to that. I shall watch it back and try and get a gameplan ready for it.

“The thing is, I have beaten her before, not for a while, but I can go in knowing that I have and I can build on that. I will give it a good go because I have nothing to lose. The pressure is on her so I can come out and try and play my best squash.”

Result
