World Champion El Sherbini Withdraws From U.S. Open

Egypt’s World No.2 Nour El Sherbini has withdrawn from this week’s FS Investments U.S. Open Squash Championships after failing to recover from a knee injury.

The reigning World Champion was forced to withdraw from last month’s Oracle NetSuite Open due to the same injury but has been unable to recover in time for the first PSA Platinum event of the season.

The withdrawal means that France’s Camille Serme replaces El Sherbini in the draw and is now the No.2 seed, while World No.3 Nour El Tayeb replaces Serme.

As a result, Wales’ Tesni Evans takes El Tayeb’s place in the draw and receives a bye in round one.

Hong Kong’s Joey Chan moves into Evans’ place in the draw and now receives a bye in round one, with France’s Coline Aumard to face Malaysia’s Sivasangari Subramaniam in round one. Meanwhile, Hong Kong’s Lee Ka Yi is brought into the main draw and will face Mille Tomlinson in round one.

In the men’s draw, Malaysia’s Eain Yow Ng has also withdrawn from the tournament in Philadelphia, which means that Egypt’s Karim El Hammamy will take his place in the draw and face England’s Adrian Waller in round one.
